Many museums conduct verbal description tours for visitors who are blind or have low vision, in person as well as virtually. Here are two upcoming virtual offerings:
On August 27, 2024, from 4 to 5 pm ET, Poster House will present a Vibrant Virtual Description Tour on Alphonse Mucha. Mucha came from Moravia to Paris in 1887, emerging as “the most celebrated graphic designer of the Art Nouveau movement.” Poster House offers virtual verbal description tours monthly free of charge via Zoom. To sign up for this event, email [email protected] or call 914.295.2387. On the morning of the tour registrants will be emailed poster images for reference as well as information about accessing Zoom. Tours start promptly and will last approximately 70 minutes with questions. Learn more at the Poster House website on this Vibrant Verbal Description Tour about Alphonse Mucha and about the artist and the exhibition here.
On September 8, 2024, from 12 to 2 pm ET, the Queens Museum invites visitors who are blind or have low vision to join Cameron A. Granger, Nsenga Knight, and Catalina Schliebener Munoz in a virtual verbal description of their respective exhibitions, 9999, Close to Home, and Buenos Vecinos. These artists use various media and techniques in creating sculpture, printmaking, painting, collage, and video to “engage in archives and history to reframe and consider new perspectives.” Find out more and register by visiting the Queens Museum webpage on Online: 9999, Close to Home, and Buenos Vecinos Verbal Description Tours.
On September 12, 2024, at 5:30 pm ET, the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) will offer a docent-led virtual tour for participants who are blind or have low vision. The program features highlights of the Museum’s collection “through rich verbal descriptions that invoke a multisensory experience.” This event is part of the Museum’s America Insight: Verbal Description Tours, held periodically to explore SAAM’s collection.
