Dedicated to Improving the Lives of Blind and Visually Impaired People

Upcoming Virtual Educational and Training Sessions for Professionals: Orientation and Mobility for Older Adults with Vision Loss: A Webinar and Job Search Skills Trainer Workshop

The National Research and Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision (NRTC) offers webinars and other programs to enhance career, employment-related, and independent living outcomes for people with vision loss. Located on the campus of Mississippi State University, NRTC also houses the Older Adults Who Are Blind Technical Assistance Program (OIB-TAC). Following are two upcoming virtual programs:

On October 18, 2024 at 2 pm Central Time (3 pm ET), the OIB-TAC monthly webinar focuses on Orientation and Mobility (O&M) for Older Adults. “For older adults, learning O&M skills can increase confidence and safety when moving within the home and community. They can also be incorporated into daily tasks.” Participants in this webinar will learn about how professionals in the field can enhance what can be done to teach basic O&M skills to older adults and document what is accomplished. From October 22 to 23, 2024, NRTC will be offering their Putting Your Best Foot Forward (PYBFF) trainer workshop. PYBFF is a job search training program for professionals working with transition-age youth (ages 14 through 21) who are blind or have low vision. The curriculum aims to help youth to learn skills needed to secure a job and “succeed in the workplace.” Topics covered include interview preparation, resume development, and disability disclosure, to name a few. The program is set up to be implemented by two trainers with ten to 15 young people. This free, two-day workshop is required to access the PYBFF curriculum and materials. To learn more and register, visit the NRTC webpages with their Fall 2024 Quarterly news under the section for the training and the Putting Your Best Foot Forward page.
