When an existing facility is modified or expanded, it can be a challenge to determine what is required to ensure accessibility. On October 3, from 2:30 to 4 pm ET, the U.S. Access Board will hold a webinar to review how the 2010 ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Accessibility Standards and the Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standards apply when planning alterations or additions. The Architectural Barriers Act, originally passed in 1968, requires that buildings or facilities designed, constructed, or modified with federal funding or leased by federal agencies be accessible. Presenters will respond to common concerns, such as what is considered an alteration; provisions for specific, primary work areas and accessible travel paths; and exceptions to the rules. Questions from participants may be submitted with registration or during the live session. For more information and to register, visit the Great Lakes ADA Center’s Alterations webinar webpage. The webinar is hosted by the ADA National Network in cooperation with the U.S. Access Board. Continuing Education Recognition is available.
