Dedicated to Improving the Lives of Blind and Visually Impaired People

Recently Produced Podcast Discusses Emotions, Mental Health, and Vision Loss

Hadley Presents, a podcast series, features conversations with professionals on a wide range of topics related to vision loss. In a recent episode, Marc Arneson, Hadley’s director of social/emotional health, spoke with Dr. Ann Wagner, a clinical psychologist who has been legally blind since she was 18 years old. The conversation focused on the emotional aspects of vision loss, discussing healthy ways to deal with and understand grief, helplessness, loss, and more. Dr. Wagner shared how “learning from and connecting with our emotions can bring about healing and transformation.” She described techniques for processing strong emotions, such as recognizing that blindness is an experience that does not define the person. Dr. Wagner also recommended sharing feelings honestly with others who have had similar experiences, noting that Hadley’s Peer-to-Peer program can help to fill that need. Hadley offers practical help, social connection, and support free of charge to people who are blind or have low vision, along with their families and professionals providing services to them. In addition to the Hadley Presents: A Conversation with the Experts audio podcast, Hadley offers a short-format podcast, Insights & Sound Bites, where people facing vision loss share what has helped them cope and adjust.
