Higher Education Scholarships for Students Who Are Blind or Have Low Vision

The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB), in partnership with the American Council of the Blind (ACB), provides financial support each year to students who are blind or have low vision. Multiple scholarship opportunities are available to college and graduate school students who are legally blind and are attending a post-secondary educational institution. The deadline for applications for AFB/ACB scholarships covering the 2024-2025 academic year is February 14, 2024. Applicants who have been awarded a scholarship will be notified in the spring. Scholarships range from $2,000 to $7,500 for entering freshman, undergraduate and graduate schools, and those attending technical colleges. To learn more about criteria for the scholarships, as well as documents required to be submitted with the completed application, visit the ACB Scholarship Program page. For additional background information, read the AFB article on Scholarships for Blind and Low Vision Students. The AFB article also features descriptions of a number or scholarships offered by other organizations, including the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER); The Blinded Veterans Association (BVA), The Christian Record Services; Lavelle Fund for the Blind, Inc.; Learning Ally; Lighthouse Guild; and the National Federation of the Blind (NFB). Scholarships for Fordham Law School and Western Michigan University are covered as well. A future issue of this Bulletin will highlight additional information about scholarships offered for the 2024-2025 academic year.
