“Braille: What It Is, and Why It Is Important:” A Continuing Education Course for Professionals Available Online Free of Charge

As World Braille Day, January 4, 2025, approaches, the National Research and Training Center (NRTC) reminds professionals about the free online course on “Braille: What It Is and Why It is Important.” This course addresses the continuing relevance of braille throughout the lifespan for people with vision loss and its impact on individuals who use it compared with those who don’t. It provides an overview of how the braille code works, equipment used for reading and writing, barriers facing those who want to learn and use braille, and how braille can contribute to successful outcomes in education, employment, and independence. The course is available for one hour of CRC (Certified Rehabilitation Counselor), ACVREP (Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals); and NBPCB (National Blindness Certification Board) credit. For more details, and a link to enroll, visit the NRTC webpage describing Braille: What It Is and Why It Is Important.
