Aspiring dancers with vision loss can enroll in the upcoming virtual series of eight “Introductory Ballet Classes for Blind and Low-Vision Adults.” Classes begin on September 14, 2024 from 4 to 6 pm ET and continue at that time on subsequent Saturdays via Zoom or by calling in by phone. Suitable for people with no prior knowledge about ballet, these sessions will introduce students to commonly used anatomical terms, such as sightless balancing, foot sensitivity and mobility, and “the use of taped floor for orientation.” Classes are held at no cost as a scholarship program for new students who are blind or have low vision. Sponsored by Movement Research, the class is “designed specifically for the educational needs of blind and low-vision adults.” To register, email [email protected] or reach Dark Room Ballet by phoning (919) 367-0025.
