New Course on Orientation and Mobility Training for People with Orthopedic Impairments as well as Vision Loss

“Walkers, Crutches, and Support Canes…Oh My!” is a new course from OIB-TAC (Older Individuals who are Blind Technical Assistance Center). The curriculum provides strategies and pointers for teaching orientation and mobility techniques to people who use walkers, crutches, or support canes. It emphasizes the value of collaborating with physical therapists and other professionals as well as addressing each person’s individual needs. The course was developed by the National Research & Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision (NRTC) at Mississippi State University. It is self guided and available for four credits from ACVREP (the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals) and NBPCB (the National Blindness Professional Certification Board).
