This year’s theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is “Access to Good Jobs for All,” as announced previously in this Bulletin. The messages conveyed for the commemoration emphasize the goal to “invest in and create opportunities for disabled workers in good jobs across the country.” The following webinars, offered free of charge, reinforce this theme:
On October 24, 2024 from 2 to 3:15 pm ET, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), sponsor of NDEAM, is hosting a program highlighting how “Good Jobs Change Lives: Helping Disabled Workers Get Ahead.” A panel of policymakers will talk about opportunities generated for workers with disabilities through programs implemented by the federal government. The discussion will also highlight best practices to assist employers in hiring and retaining people with disabilities in good jobs. To find out more details about the event and presenters, visit the ODEP webpage describing the NDEAM 2024 Event and register here.
On October 22, 2024 from 12 to 1 pm ET, Penny Forward, a “nonprofit organization founded and led by blind people,” will conduct a session aimed at helping “clients succeed in today’s competitive job market.” The webinar will be hosted by Chris Peterson, the organization’s founder and CEO; and Jeremy Grandstaff, director of Pre-Employment Transition Programs. They will speak about programs they provide to help individuals who are blind or have low vision and are seeking employment or launching a business. Topics to be covered include clarifying a career path while achieving financial goals; crafting “winning strategies” to develop and implement career plans; and how to provide tools needed to “stand out and secure meaningful employment opportunities.” For more information and a registration link, visit Penny Forward’s webpage how to Empower Your Clients: Join Our Webinar for Disability Employment Awareness Month.
