Haben Girma, a disability rights lawyer, an author, an advocate, and a “White House Champion for Change,” will be sharing her expertise and experiences at an event being held online and in-person at The New School in New York City on October 16, 2024 from 7 to 8 pm ET. During this moderated conversation, Girma will discuss “themes ranging from living with a disability with multiple marginalized identities, to how to advocate for change and strategies for being thoughtful, anti-ableist, inclusive, and innovative designers.” As covered in a previous issue of this Bulletin, she has published a book documenting her experiences, Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law. Girma has also traveled around the world to advocate for people with disabilities. The event is presented by The Parsons Disabled Fashion Student Program at Parsons’ School of Fashion.
