Virtual museum tours provide great opportunities to visit exhibits and programs without leaving home. Two upcoming online tours are specially geared to individuals with visual impairments:
On October 1, 2024 from 6 to 7:15 pm ET, the Brooklyn Museum invites individuals who are blind or have low vision to experience their exhibit on Elizabeth Catlett: A Black Revolutionary Artist and All That It Implies. This “vivid, online verbal description tour” will explore how Catlett, “a defining Black woman artist of the 20th century,” created prints and sculptures “that speak directly to those in the fight against poverty, racism, and imperialism.” For more information and a registration link, visit the Brooklyn Museum webpage on this Virtual Verbal Description Tour: Elizabeth Catlett.
On October 5, 2024 from 11:30 am to 1 pm ET, the Whitney Museum of American Art will host a Verbal Description Tour on Zoom: Edges of Ailey. This virtual program will focus on the exhibit, Edges of Ailey, which highlights the “life, dances, influences, and enduring legacy of visionary artist and choreographer Alvin Ailey.” The exhibit is on display at the museum in New York City from September 25, 2024 until February 9, 2025.
