Dedicated to Improving the Lives of Blind and Visually Impaired People

Virtual Screening of “Telephone” Film, a Disability Arts Project: April 23, 2023

An online screening of the documentary film Telephone will be shown on April 23, 2023 at 7 pm ET. The film, co-directed by choreographer/filmmaker Heather Shaw and Krista Washburn, founder of Dark Room Ballet, showcases audio description, particularly for dance, “as an art form in its own right.” This production marks the “first screendance documentary created specifically with a visually impaired audience in mind, while facilitating an immersive sensory experience of dance for audience members of all sight levels.” The 45-minute film, which includes Audio Description and American Sign Language, will be followed by a discussion with the co-directors. Tickets are available on a sliding scale, with those planning to attend paying any amount they would like. Once the ticket is obtained, a confirmation will include a Zoom link to attend, as well as access to a “Telephone FilmGoer Guide online.” For more information, visit the website of Dark Room Ballet with Krishna Washburn. The screening is hosted by the EstroGenius Festival 2023, an annual celebration of dance-makers, playwrights, musicians, and others looking “to break molds and crack gender codes to the stage, street and forefront of public attention.”
