The American Printing House for the Blind (APH) has released a new product for physical education teachers and parents: a kit of tactile courts to help teach new sport units and encourage participation in athletics. This comprehensive kit includes a manual for each sport that describes it with adaptations for children with visual impairments or deafblindness. Interactive and tactile maps provide the opportunity for students to become familiar with such sports as badminton, baseball, basketball, bowling, floor hockey, football, lacrosse, golf, and soccer, to name a few. The SPORTS COURTS tactile layout provides a scaled-down representation of each sport. Available for purchase for $729, the kit is also “Federal Quota Eligible,” meaning that federal funds can be provided “for the purchase of specialized educational materials” for those meeting certain visual criteria. For additional information, read the APH webpage on SPORTS COURTS. And learn more here about The Federal Quota Program and eligibility.
