A free, self-paced online video/recorded training course for social workers is now available from the OAB-TAC (Older Individuals Who Are Blind Technical Assistance Center) of the Mississippi State University National Research and Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision (NRTC). Titled “Practical Information for Social Workers New to Interacting with Older Adults Experiencing Vision Loss,” the course provides an overview of strategies and techniques related to working with individuals who are blind or have low vision. Since vision loss can be very gradual and those affected by it may “function visually for many years,” professionals may find it difficult to identify clients who are visually impaired. By learning more about vision impairment, social workers can understand questions to ask and help their clients find appropriate vision rehabilitation services. Find out more on the NRTC webpage announcing OAB-TAC Releases New Course for Social Workers. For specifics about the course and a link to enroll, visit the webpage describing the self-paced course on Practical Information for Social Workers New to Interacting with Older Adults Experiencing Vision Impairment or Blindness.
