Call for Participants: Research Study on a New Intracortical Visual Prosthesis to Restore Light Perception for People Who Are Totally Blind

The Illinois Institute of Technology and The Chicago Lighthouse are seeking participants for a clinical research study regarding a new, wireless Intracortical Visual Prosthesis (ICVP) designed to help restore some light perception for people who are totally blind. This prosthesis would “compensate for blindness by stimulating the visual centers within the brain.” Applications for initial screening may be submitted by individuals who lost their vision as an adult, but who had normal or near normal vision for the first 10 years of their life. However, participation in the study will require additional inclusion and exclusion criteria beyond vision. “Restoring vision is not the goal of this study and should not be the expectation.” Learn more  here about the Intracortical Visual Prosthesis Project.
