This year’s Braille Challenge Season will run from January 1 through March 18, 2024. The Braille Challenge, “the only academic challenge of its kind in North America for students who are blind or visually impaired,” is held each year in January through March. Developed by the Braille Institute, the Challenge seeks to motivate students to practice and refine their braille literacy skills, “which are essential to academic and employment success.” Any student in first through twelfth grades who is blind or visually impaired may participate. Contestants, divided into five age categories, are tested on basic braille skills such as reading comprehension, spelling, speed and accuracy, proofreading, and charts and graphs. Read more on the Braille Institute website here about the Braille Challenge. More than 50 regional events will be held in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, virtually and in person.
