New Free Resource: “Finding Services: A Beginner’s Guide to Visual Impairment”

“Are you having difficulty finding resources or services to assist you in your adjustment to blindness or low vision? Are you (or a family member or friend) new to vision loss and wondering what to do?” The National Research and Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision (NRTC) has a new, free resource, a video entitled “Finding Services: A Beginner’s Guide to Visual Impairment.” This resource was developed in response to individuals who are visually impaired and participated in research conducted by the NRTC. It explains and provides contact information for organizations that can be helpful in finding support for independent living as well as securing and keeping employment. Chapters of the video explore such topics as vocational rehabilitation, older individuals who are blind program; private agencies; and the National Library Services for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS), to name a few. This video can also be useful to service providers, with information about additional resources and referral opportunities. A transcript of the video and resource list are available as separate documents under the “Resources” section.
