Vision Rehabilitation Week celebrates and commemorates the specialized, life-changing programs and services that increase safety, confidence, and independence for people living with blindness and low vision. Initiated by VisionServe Alliance (VSA), this observance spotlights the importance of vision rehabilitation services, emphasizing their vital role in the continuum of ophthalmic care. Vision rehabilitation is comprised of a broad range of services customized to meet the needs of each individual, developed following a general or low vision eye exam and input from the client. The programs and services provided empower individuals with visual impairments to lead independent lives. In addition to raising awareness of training and programs provided to clients, Vision Rehabilitation Week also serves to highlight career opportunities, honoring the professionals who are dedicated to working in vision rehabilitation disciplines and encouraging aspiring professionals to explore careers in the blind and visually impaired (BVI) community. VSA invites participation in the celebration so that “’Together we can create a world where visual challenges do not hinder independence and fulfillment.’” Find out more about the commemoration and the range of programs and services available by visiting VIsionServe Alliance’s (VSA) webpage on VIsion Rehabilitation Week. To help spread the word, VSA offers a toolkit containing content, images, graphic options, social media messages, and more. Access the Toolkit For Vision Rehabilitation Week here. VSA is also partnering with National Today to highlight Vision Rehabilitation Week. A widely recognized source for holidays and commemorations, National Today reaches millions of individuals. An email promoting the occasion has been sent to 350,000 subscribers, including consumers, professionals, and media outlets. Sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, Vision Rehabilitation Week is being support by organizations such as the National Eye Institute (NEI), National Council on Aging (NCOA), and American Society on Aging (ASA).
