At its recent meeting, the Reader’s Digest Partners for Sight Foundation (RDPFS) Board of Directors approved the awarding of five grants to not-for-profit providers. These grants recognize the multi-faceted needs of the growing numbers of people who are blind or visually impaired. It is critical that those with vision loss are aware of resources available and have access to acquiring the skills required to be independent and, depending on their stage of life, achieve career success in an increasingly more complex and digital environment. The programs supported address a range of needs experienced by individuals of all ages. While varying in scope and specific program elements, these grant recipients are all fortifying the ability of service providers to meet growing needs as well as to bridge the awareness gap that limits the number of people who can access available offerings. The programs, collectively, help people who are blind and visually impaired to overcome barriers to success, build self-sufficiency, and realize their full potential to lead independent and fulfilling lives. Following are descriptions of each of the programs receiving grant funding.
