As the new year begins, a number of online programs full of practical information and tips have been scheduled for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Following are descriptions of a few of them.

On January 10, 2024, from 3 to 4:30 pm Pacific Time (PT; 6 to 7:30 pm ET), What is Safe Driving? A Presentation for Professionals to earn ACVREP CEU Credits will provide participants with information about determining when those living with vision loss need to “give up the car keys.” The workshop will cover alternative transportation options as well as how to foster independence without a car. On January 11, 2024, from 10 am to 11:30 am PT (1 to 2:30 pm ET), Blind Gaming with Ross Minor will bring blind gamers the latest news about accessible gaming along with playing tips. On January 17, 2024, from 1:30 to 3 pm PT (4:30 to 6 pm ET), Keyboard for VoiceOver on iPad will explore how using a Bluetooth keyboard can “enhance your VoiceOver skills” for tasks such as text editing and website navigation. On January 11, 2024 from 7 to 8:30 pm ET, The Business of Being Blind: (With) Program Consultant Sila Miller, will feature discussions with people who are blind and visually impaired in many different fields of work. Sila Miller will talk about her role as a “Program Consultant,” along with other speakers. On January 12, 2024 from 10:30 to 11:30 am, Fit and Fabulous: Bone Building, a program for adults, will be led by a certified instructor who has “some sight impairment herself.” She will guide the group through bone building exercises. On January 14, 2024 from 3 to 4:30 pm ET, Outta Sight Cooking: Arroz Con Gandules, a program for adults and young adults, offers the opportunity to “Try new dishes with the start of the New Year!” Instructor Renee Chaifour will guide participants through her method for cooking this dish, which is a Puerto Rican delicacy made up of rice with pigeon peas or kidney beans. On January 24, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Notes App on Your iPhone and Android, a workshop designed for adults, will offer tips on how to use this app to store information like user names and passwords, vaccinations, and more.
