Guest presenters and staff from the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) have shared and discussed accessible options to consider when selecting gifts for children and adults who are blind or have low vision. The webinar that was recorded during the 2022 holiday season, available on YouTube, includes suggestions for games, such as “Go Fish” in large print and braille and a memory game using textures, “Sit and Spin” ABCs, and other novel offerings. To access the program, visit the APH YouTube recording of the Gift Giving Guide for the Holidays. The 2023 webinar, which will be posted soon, includes suggestions for “experiential giving.” Examples include digital offerings, such as enrollment in a 3D printing workshop, robotics camp, or subscription to a streaming service; a recording session, music lesson, concert ticket or other music-related gifts; fashion experiences, like a personal shopper, make up lesson, or hair-style class; hobbies, and sports activities. Additional experiential ideas are available as part of the Gift Ideas for People Who Are Blind or Low Vision. This latest webinar will be posted on the APH website in the coming weeks.
